PESTLE analysis of Barratt Developments

Barratt Properties PLC is one of the largest property developers in the UK as well as the largest house builder in the country by sales. The company has experienced steady growth through the years, growing from strength to strength year after year. Despite Britain’s slow housing industry growth, Barratt has recently had one of the best performances in its 60 years of experience. However, the environment it operates it is still characterized by several threats that are likely to affect its future performance. Britain’s housing market has been slowed down by Brexit uncertainty, which has stopped many consumers from buying and selling houses, leading to a fall in house prices. The gap between property value and earnings also remains high, making it hard for younger buyers to step onto the property ladder.
Nevertheless, the UK government’s help-to-buy scheme presents a major opportunity to the industry, given it has since been extended to 2023. The demand for affordable homes is higher than the current supply, a fact that building companies should address in order to meet continued demand and good mortgage availability. Despite lower house costs, the price and earnings gap remains large.
In this report, the author uses the PESTLE framework to identify the changes and effects of the external macro environment on a firm's competitive position. The author identified PESTAL factors, analyzed possible effects on the firm, categorized them into opportunities and threats, and developed preemptive strategic recommendations.

Ryanair Pestle Analysis 2021

Ryanair is the Europe’s largest airline, the largest low cost carrier and also one of the world’s largest airlines globally in terms of passenger numbers. Ryanair operates in a very competitive environment, a challenge that has today been escalated by COVID 19 impact on travel. In March 2020, the air industry came to a standstill following widespread national lockdowns, by April the overall number of passengers had fallen 92% from 2019 levels, international travel dropped by an average of the 98% cent while domestic travel fell by 87% in domestic air travel.
Despite the loosening of travel restriction and lockdowns with the rollout of vaccination, the industry is not likely to get back to its normal levels any time soon as new variants keep coming up and the fear of travel and infection impacts consumer decisions. Besides, consumer confidence has been crashed by growing unemployment, looming recession and the uncertainty surrounding COVID 19.
Besides, it should be noted that the industry was already overcrowded with players competing on price, a fact that has pushed profitability to the lowest levels leaving consumers with a lot of bargaining power. This is a situation that is likely to worsen as supply exceeds demand, in fact, smaller airlines are likely to continue to collapse while major players consolidate to gain market shares.
Using PESTLE analysis, the report examines the political, economic, social, technological, legal and ecological environmental Ryanair operates in and how it is impacting its growth.

The company is further faced with some macro issues such as uncertainty of Brexit, UK high taxes for air travel and the UK weak economy.
Key recommendations for future success include; changing its organizational culture and differentiating from competitors.
